Revenue Up at Maryland Casinos in September

New Jersey CasinosCasino revenue for the five land casinos in the state of Maryland for September 2016 increased 11% year on year, it was reported by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency this week. The numbers dipped from $100.3 million in August to $97 million in September, following the annual trend of revenue slipping after the peak of the holiday season.

Performance at individual casinos were noted as follows:

* Maryland Live Casino: This facility has the most slot machines in the entire state and it is no wonder that slots were its biggest performers in September. Maryland Live Casino saw an 8.8% increase compared to last year in the same month and posted revenues of $53.9 million.

* Horseshoe Casino Baltimore: This popular Maryland casino was disappointed last year in September when revenues were down, but things definitely picked up for them last month, and a 21.6% increase was reported. Horseshoe Casino contributed $26.9 million to Maryland’s overall numbers. The casino’s general manager, Erin Chamberlin said: “We’re very pleased with our September performance, having posted the largest percentage of year-over-year revenue growth of any casino in Maryland during the period.”

* Hollywood Casino Perryville: Maryland’s first casino unfortunately saw its revenues decline in September 2016 – the only one of the five to do so. Compared to the same month last year, numbers dipped 4.6% and this was the fifth consecutive drop in revenues for the facility.

* Rocky Gap Casino Resort: It was an impressive month for this casino which posted a 15% increase in revenues.

* Casino at Ocean Downs: This casino saw a small but steady revenue increase of 3% year on year, with $5.9 million in revenues posted.

A new casino is due to open later this year – the MGM National Harbor will open its doors at the beginning of December, just in time for the holiday season. The new casino will boast a boutique-style hotel complex, a conference center, multiple dining options and more.

Bill Boasberg, the resort’s general manager said: “When people come see it, they are going to be awestruck. There is going to be something for everyone in this resort. We are not just targeting casino customers.”

The casino itself will offer slots and table games spread over a 125,000 square foot casino floor.

Revenue from Maryland’s casinos help many important causes in the Old Line State, with funds earmarked for Maryland Education Trust Fund, the state’s horse racing industry and others.
