NJ Posts Record Online Gambling Revenues

New Jersey posted its numbers from online gambling revenues in February this year, and despite it being the shortest month, the Garden State set a record high since it began its regulated igaming market.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement said that revenues amounting to $21.992 million were generated in February – 17.5% higher than the same period last year and grazing the previous record seen in January this year by just $30,000.

Some of the highlights of the NJ DGE report were as follows:

  • Online casino gambling contributed the most to February 2018’s revenues, climbing 22.2% compared to the same month a year ago ($20.2 million).
  • For the twelfth month running, online casino numbers have been on the right side of the magic $20 million mark.
  • Online poker continued its downward trend, dropping 18.3% compared to February 2017.
  • Online poker numbers were $1.77 million in February 2018 vis-a-vis $1.95 million in January this year.
  • Overall online gambling revenues to date in 2018 have reached around $44 million – a growth of 17.1%.
  • All but $3.7 million of the $44 million was generated by online casino activity.

New Jersey Casinos Contribute to Online Gambling

The biggest contributor to New Jersey’s online gambling numbers was the Golden Nugget which had a bumper month in February by generating $7.88 million in online gambling revenue.

Compared to last year’s numbers, the Golden Nugget saw a whopping 52.4% rise in revenues. It was also a good month for the Atlantic City’s land based operations since it was the only casino in the city to post positive months in February.

Second in New Jersey online gambling revenues was  the Borgata group of igaming sites which generated $3.79 million overall. Once more, casino games made up the largest amount of revenue.

Resorts Digital came in a close third place with $3.77 million in revenues.

The Tropicana’s online casino site took third place with $3.35 million, and Caesars Interactive Entertainment New Jersey came in a close fifth spot at $3.2 million.

Overall New Jersey Casino Revenues Down

Despite an excellent month for New Jersey’s online gambling operations, the numbers were not enough to see year on year growth in the state’s overall gaming numbers.  What brought the numbers down were a few factors: a 6.1% decline in slots games, a 15.5% decline in table games and overall brick and mortar gaming numbers down 8.9%.

As such, total gaming win in the state of New Jersey for February 2018 was down to $192 million – a drop of 6.5%.
