A multiyear sponsorship deal was struck between the Major League Baseball team, Detroit Tigers and the US sportsbook, BetMGM.
Under the terms of the partnership, BetMGM will become the Tigers’ official gaming partner, with its brand appearing on scoreboards at its home Comerica Park stadium.
As per the senior vice president of corporate partnerships for the Detroit Tigers, Peter Kent:
“We’re excited to expand our relationship with BetMGM to feature the Detroit Tigers and Comerica Park. Our fans will enjoy the enhancements this partnership provides to their experience, both at the ballpark and in rooting on the Tigers from home.”
Also commenting was the president of MGM Resorts’ Midwest Group, David Tsai, who said that the Detroit Tigers are a central and integral part of the Michigan sports scene and the team brings an “undeniable energy to the city”.
Tsai said that MGM Grand Detroit is ready to welcome the Detroit Tigers and sports betting fans to the BetMGM Sports Lounge before, during and after games for what he described as “an innovative and exciting experience.”
At the beginning of March, BetMGM became the first US betting operator to partner with a German soccer club after it struck a deal with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
The deal includes social media promotions, exclusive signup offers for fans and customer sweepstakes. It also includes marketing placements and rights for BetMGM to use player imagery and team logos.
Borussia Dortmund said that it was pleased with having BetMGM as its new regional partners in the United States as US-based fans would now be able to watch BVB matches via the BetMGM app.
This is not the first sports betting deal for the Detroit Tigers. The team signed a multi-year deal with PointsBet at the beginning of the 2020 MLB season as Michigan entered the legal sports betting arena in March last year. This was an industry first, since PointsBet became the first sportsbook to partner with a Major League Baseball team.
