Chris Moneymaker Joins Americas Cardroom as Newest Ambassador

After literally becoming a household name when he won the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event and took home $2.5 million in prize money, Chris Moneymaker has returned to the world of online poker in the United States.

The player has signed with the US-facing online poker room, Americas Cardroom and will become a member of the site’s Team Pro.

The announcement that Moneymaker was coming onboard was made during the final table live stream of the $8 million GTD Venom, one of the biggest online poker tournaments for US players. The tournament’s prize pool eventually reached nearly $9.5 million.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Chris Moneymaker back to online poker in the United States,” said Americas Cardroom spokesperson Michael Harris. “The fact that he’s chosen to wear the red, white, and blue ACR patch speaks volumes about our commitment to doing big things for poker in America and worldwide.”

Online Poker Pioneer

Moneymaker is the man that many consider to be the name behind the online poker revolution in the early 2000s.  His rags-to-riches story inspired millions of wannabe online poker pros, after he entered a low buy-in satellite at an online poker site, won his $10K WSOP Main Event seat and then went on to win the entire tournament, taking home the massive $2.5 million prize.

Moneymaker was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2019. He went on to win $3.9 million in live poker earnings over his career.

‘The Moneymaker Effect’ is named after him and refers to the sudden growth of interest in poker around the world after the 2003 WSOP Main Event.

Speaking about his new role at Americas Cardroom, Moneymaker said in a promotional video: “I’m really proud to join the team and looking forward to working with you guys.”
